By Triathlon South Africa | 11 Mar, 2016

Richard Murray is off to a flying start to the 2016 WTS series. Murray had an exceptional performance by turning a 31 second deficit on the swim into a silver medal at the first leg of the series in Abu Dhabi.

Schoeman exited the water in the first place with a 2 second lead to the rest of the field. Murray exited the swim in 27th position. After the cycle leg the elite men approached T2 in one big bunch of 54 athletes, with Murray and Schoeman 2 and 5 seconds respectively down from the lead.

After running at an average pace of 3min07sec/km Murray finished in 2nd place, 15 seconds from Mola’s win, in a time of 1h46min54sec.

Schoeman finished in 42nd position, 3min10sec from Murray’s second.

Murray: “Very happy with form and how race panned out today in Abu Dhabi . 2nd place behind a flying Mario Mola Díaz will do (-;  off to Dubai and then to Brisbane Aus for a month !”
