By World Triathlon Admin | 13 Feb, 2008

Dr Lanre Glover, President of the Nigerian Triathlon Union, today inaugurated the Lagos Triathlon Association (LTA).  Speaking at the ceremony, Glover told the three-man interim committee that they were expected to generate funds for the running of the association as well as set up the structure of the association.  He promised to assist the association by providing it with technical support to make the sport a household one in the state.

Glover described the inauguration as a historic event, adding that the International Triathlon Union was delighted that the national federation was making efforts to promote the sports in Nigeria.

Dr. Sikuade Jagun, the interim chairman, said the association would soon launch its blueprint for development, adding that with the abundant reservoir of young athletes in Lagos, triathlon would be popular in the state.

``We are looking at the next five years with which to take the sport to all parts of Lagos,’’ Jagun said. He called for support from the public and the media and added that the association would be formed at all levels in the state.  Other members of the interim body are Mr. Abimbola Ilo, the interim Secretary and Tony Nezianya, the head of Media and Communication.
