Ahmed Nasser appointed to ITU Executive Board

ITU is pleased to announce that Ahmed Nasser of Egypt has been appointed to the ITU Executive Board. He replaces Li Xin of China who unfortunately passed away in October.

Nasser, the founding President of the Egyptian Triathlon Federation, becomes the first Egyptian and Arab to ever hold a position on the ITU Executive Board.  He also currently serves on the Executive Board of the African Triathlon Union (ATU) and has already been instrumental in triathlon’s development in Egypt and in Arab nations.

A former world class athlete, Nasser competed in swimming, fencing,equestrian, water polo and modern pentathlon including competing in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games on Egypt’s first Modern Pentathlon Olympic team.

“We are delighted to welcome Ahmed as the newest member ofthe Executive Board,” said Marisol Casado, President of ITU.  “I’m confident have his presence will be felt immediately, particularly in developing triathlon in Africa and the Arab community.”

Nasser’s term on the Executive Board will be until the next ITU Congress and elections, slated for 23 October 2012 in Auckland, NewZealand.
